Article: Ever wondered where the name "Oro Verde" comes from?

Aceite de Oliva Sin Filtrar o Filtrado

Ever wondered where the name "Oro Verde" comes from?

You've probably heard Extra Virgin Olive Oil referred to as "Green Gold", and you may know the International Olive Council, the international body dedicated to olive oil and table olives. But do you know where that expression actually comes from?

I'll tell you all about it in a moment. But first, let me share some exciting news… This year, Migue, our grower at Olivar de San Miguel, has decided to produce a very limited batch of this authentic "Green Gold" olive oil — made from century-old olive trees, using a careful selection of olives and a first cold press. A true tribute to Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

We expect this Extra Virgin Olive Oil to be ready by mid-November, though the exact date will depend on rainfall over the coming days. With this "Green Gold", we're expanding our collection of premium Extra Virgin Olive Oils.

As promised, let me tell you where the name "Green Gold" comes from — its fruity flavour and aroma, and what makes its Picual variety so singular and special.

The origin of "Green Gold" as a name for Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Long ago — we're talking about our great-great-grandparents' time — Extra Virgin Olive Oil was never filtered. The finest oil, the one olive growers kept for themselves and their families, was the first to be collected: made from the very first cold press, using a traditional beam press.

That oil had a pure, deep green colour, a bold olive green, and a truly intense flavour — unique in Mediterranean cooking and perfect for summer salads, thanks to its cold pressing. That is how it came to be known as "Green Gold".

An intense oil, for its colour…

An intense oil, for its flavour…

An intense oil, for its cold pressing...

An intense oil, for its olive variety...

An oil made only for true lovers of pure, first-press olive juice…

That is Green Gold!

You can already buy your "Green Gold" olive oil. But remember — this is a very limited production.

We want you to try it, and if you love it and ask us to, we'll make more next year!

We hope we haven't underestimated demand — we'd love for you to try this oil and take in every detail of the product. I can't wait for you to!

A big hug!

Julio.

P.S. I'll leave you with a verified customer review from Jorge that truly left us speechless.

"We're not olive oil experts at home, though we have been buying virgin olive oils from various brands over the years.

Saying that this extra virgin olive oil is extraordinary hardly takes any effort — it's self-evident. But I'd like to offer a different perspective. In our case, we decided to take a step up in quality, and why not admit it, in our own enjoyment. We're an ordinary family that has chosen to spend a little more than the average market price in exchange for a better quality of life. Don't tell me that sitting down to breakfast before work isn't a pleasure when you're eating toast with this extraordinary Green Gold olive oil, made from Arbequina olives.

Thank you for your products, and especially for «Estirpe».

By the way, the product arrived at my door before the payment had even cleared from my account."

Incredible, isn't it?…

Reviews like this from verified purchases are what keep us committed to quality and always pushing forward to bring you the very best with our Green Gold.

A quick tip: to preserve the quality of your Extra Virgin Olive Oil and keep it at its best, we at Mi Oliva Gourmet recommend storing our products away from light and heat at all times.

On our website you'll find answers to the questions our customers ask us most often. And if you'd like more information about the product, don't hesitate to get in touch.
