An Appetizer with 1 Michelin Star
A few weeks ago I had the chance to enjoy an unforgettable dining experience at a 1 Michelin Star restaurant. The evening was full of surprises, but one detail stayed with me: an appetiser as simple as it was exquisite, built around extra virgin olive oil (EVOO).
The mystery of the three small bowls
The chef came over and placed three small porcelain bowls in front of me, each one filled with the finest quality EVOO. He encouraged me to taste them without offering any explanation:
- EVOO in its purest, most natural form.
- EVOO with raw honey.
- EVOO with Himalayan salt.
The combination of flavours was a true celebration for the palate: the intensity of the EVOO, the sweetness of the honey and the subtle mineral note of the salt.
How to make this appetiser at home
To recreate it, you'll need quality ingredients:
- Mi Oliva Gourmet extra virgin olive oil.
- Raw honey.
- Himalayan salt.
- Artisan bread to serve alongside.
Method
- Arrange three small bowls on an elegant board or plate.
- In the first, pour EVOO on its own, to appreciate its pure flavour.
- In the second, combine EVOO with a teaspoon of honey.
- In the third, sprinkle Himalayan salt over the EVOO.
- Serve with artisan bread and savour every nuance of flavour.
How to enjoy it
This appetiser is best enjoyed by dipping pieces of bread into each bowl. Moving from one flavour to the next is an experience in itself:
"Each bite reveals a different facet of the EVOO: its purity, its sweetness paired with honey, and its savoury character with Himalayan salt."
Presentation tips
If you want to impress your guests:
- Add a sprig of rosemary or thyme as a garnish.
- Set out some olives or nuts on the table to complement the flavours.
- Pair with a glass of white wine or sparkling wine.
History and tradition in every bite
This appetiser is a tribute to Mediterranean simplicity and tradition. The quality of the EVOO is everything when it comes to a truly memorable experience. There is no better way to enjoy it than with Mi Oliva Gourmet, an oil that carries the story of generations of growers.
I hope you feel inspired to make this little treat and share it with the people you love. Enjoy!
